Gem Diamonds is on a roll. Fresh from announcing the $40 million sale of the 910-carat “Lesotho Legend”, the fifth largest gem-quality diamond ever recovered, it reported yet another sparkling discovery from its Letseng mine in Lesotho.

At the size of a large marble, the 169-carat diamond announced yesterday may be relatively puny next to the Lesotho Legend, which is as big a cricket ball.

It is, however, the seventh discovery so far in 2018 above the 100 carat threshold that makes it among the biggest and most valuable class of diamonds in the world.

With just two and a half months gone of the year, the haul marks a significant recovery from recent weak performance. Gem Diamonds found seven such specimens over the entire
